Right royal start to training week

An unplanned meeting with Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall gave the Vodafone Warriors a right royal start to the second week of their off-season training programme yesterday.

The players had just completed an intensive track session when they were invited to meet the visiting royals on their scheduled tour of the Millennium Institute of Sport and Health on Auckland’s North Shore.
Vodafone Warriors head coach Matt Elliott was more than happy to fit the impromptu opportunity into a schedule which had been initially built around the royals meeting the likes of Olympic gold medal-winning kayaker Lisa Carrington, the Silver Ferns and other athletes who train at the institute.
Added to the meet and greet mix, the Vodafone Warriors, clad in their training kits. had their iPhones working busily as they captured and tweeted images. There was some coverage of them meeting the royals on 3 News last night:
