Vatuvei fined down for big fight

Ahead of Saturday night’s showdown at Waitakere’s Trusts Stadium, Vatuvei tipped the scales at 104.2kg while the slightly taller Murray was a smidgeon more than 100kg.

The pair will face of in three two-minute rounds in tomorrow night’s rugby league v rugby union promotion (with the union cause topped up by Murray’s rowing expertise).

In the other league v union fights, big Willie Mason, weighing in at 121kg, is almost seven kilograms heavier than his opponent former All Black Troy Flavell. Gold Coast’s Greg Bird (102kg) is slightly heavier than Rene Ranger, who was almost 99kg at the weigh-in, Paul Gallen (104kg) is giving away a lot of weight to Hika Elliott (113kg) and Jarrod McCracken (99kg) has almost 10kg on Carlos Spencer (89kg).
